Aurora Humanitarian Initiative
The Aurora Humanitarian Initiative is a nonprofit organization that elevates courageous grassroots humanitarians working on the frontlines of today’s most pressing crises, while inspiring others to realize their own humanitarian potential.
With humanitarianism at an inflection point, Aurora is putting the “human” back in humanitarian and awakening the humanitarian in every human through storytelling, community-building, and global action.
Frontline humanitarians are our most precious resource. They must be protected and championed.
The Aurora Humanitarian Network is comprised of grassroots humanitarians and human rights activists, known as Aurora Luminaries, who support vulnerable communities facing conflict, violence and oppression worldwide.
Built through rigorous selection over a decade of Aurora Prize cycles, the Network serves as the foundation for Aurora 2.0, the strategic shift from recognizing courageous, life-saving acts to proliferating humanitarianism into the future.

The Aurora Luminaries are grassroots activists helping the most vulnerable whose basic needs and rights are often overlooked. Their courage and commitment have transformed millions of lives, delivering hope, protection, and opportunity where it is needed most.
The Aurora Luminaries tackle complex challenges around the world
From Africa to Southeast Asia and from Europe to Latin America.
Their efforts include advocating for the rights of marginalized minorities, rehabilitating survivors in conflict zones, combating sexualized violence against women and children, promoting education in underserved areas, providing universal access to healthcare, and supporting sustainable development projects in vulnerable communities, among many others.
